Fire engines raced to the Heysham to M6 link road site compound after smoke was discovered in a new visitor’s centre.

A call was made to fire crews at 2.10pm on Thursday after staff found smoke coming from a fuse box.

There were no members of the public in the centre at the time.

The visitor’s centre, which opened last Monday, is in a converted sales office at the former Broadoak garden centre on Lancaster Road.
