15.30: To sum up. This means the MBIs have an overall majority with 16 seats, Labour have five, Independence 4 Morecambe four and the Liberal Democrats one.
MBI leader David Kerr told the Visitor he was very pleased with result and was looking forward to working with the other parties.
The council will elect a new chairman and vice-chairman at their next meeting on Thursday, May 19.
15.00. RESULT: TORRISHOLME : Linda Davies (Independence 4 Morecambe), John Day (Liberal Democrats), Roger Dennison (MBI), Geoff Marsland (MBI) and Christine Wade (MBI) elected
14.30: RESULT: HARBOUR: Jason Firth (MBI), Janice Hanson (Labour), Janet Rudkin (MBI), Geoff Walker (MBI) and David Whitaker (Labour) elected
14.00: RESULT: HEYSHAM NORTH: Nicholas Baxter (MBI), Paula Kerr (MBI) and Margaret Pattison (Labour) elected.
13.45: There will be a recount in the Heysham North ward.
13.30: The MBIs have eight seats, needing another six from the 13 remaining to retain control of the council.
MBI for Torrisholme, Roger Dennison said the group were optimistic of getting an overall majority and they welcomed the wider variety of groups that would be represented on the council.
He said: It’s good to get a wider variety, it’s better for democracy. All we want though is that everyone wants a better future for Morecambe.
“There are problems and with public finances the way they are it’s going to be a difficult few years.”
13.00: RESULT: POULTON: Evelyn Archer (Independence 4 Morecambe), Shirley Burns (MBI), Darren Clifford (Labour), Tricia Heath (MBI) and Terrie Metcalfe (Labour) elected.

12.10: RESULT: WESTGATE: David Andrew (MBI), Tracy Brown (Independence 4 Morecambe), David Kerr (MBI), Susan Lomax (Independence 4 Morecambe) and Roger Plumb (MBI) elected
12.00: Some councillors suggesting there will be strong results for the national political parties. Morecambe Town Council currently only has Torrisholme Lib Dem John Day from the big three parties.
11.20: Roger Dennison, Morecambe Bay Independent for Torrisholme, says it is impossible to predict today’s outcome after the events of yesterday’s city council elections in which several big names lost their seats, including council leader Stuart Langhorn.
10.55: Evelyn Archer, who yesterday lost her city council seat in the Poulton ward by just 24 votes, says it is looking tight in the ward again
10.45: With one ward uncontested, the other five wards to be decided are Harbour, Heysham North, Poulton, Torrisholme and Westgate.
10.20: The first order of business is that Tony Anderson, June Ashworth and Helen Ball, all Morecambe Bay Independents, are elected unopposed in the Bare ward as they are the only three candidates for three seats.
