One of the oldest pubs in the district will close its doors for the final time tonight (September 21).
The Ship Hotel in Overton village will shut and there are currently no plans for it to reopen as a pub.
The Ship is housed in a 17th century building and has been a public house for at least 150 years. The Thwaites-owned premises is known for its famous birds egg collection and for former landlady Ma McCluskie, who ran the pub for 43 years until 1977.
The pub was run for the past 20 years by Geoff and Cynthia Webber. Geoff decided not to continue as landlord following his wife’s death earlier this year.
There will be a final party night tonight at the Ship featuring live music from soul, jazz and blues singer Celia, starting at 7pm. All welcome.
