A major search operation for a missing woman is under way on the River Lune in Lancaster tonight.
Liverpool Coastguard confirmed they were coordinating a search along the river between Lancaster and Snatchems.
The woman, in her forties, was reported missing at around 7pm.
A spokesman for Liverpool Coastguard said it was not clear whether she had entered the river, but that was where the search was focused.
Knott-End Coastguard, the Morecambe RNLI hovercraft, firefighters and police are all at the scene.
A helicopter was also brought in but was later forced to return to base because of low cloud.
A Major Incident Vehicle has also been spotted in the area.
Eyewitnesses reported a large amount of emergency service vehicles near the river.
The helicopter was seen circling above Skerton Bridge.
Claire Dean said: “I saw the hovercraft come under Greyhound Bridge, up a little way, then it turned on the stones and went back.”
At 11.55pm, Liverpool Coastguard said the operation was continuing as a ground search.
