“When I lost the weight I thought I will never let myself get like that again,” said the 59-year-old.

“I thought if I ever put it on again I won’t go outside but I put it on gradually and you cant hide yourself away, it is human nature.

“I am disappointed with myself, it has not been the best year for me but I enjoyed the filming, it was a great experience.”

Jane dropped the weight after losing her dad John Hartup to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in July 2014.

“You can’t hide away the way you look on camera, I’m just human,” said Jane who works in administration at Lancaster University.

The programme, which aired on Valentines Day, reached 1.3m viewers, filming Jane and others, including a winner of the American weight-loss show, the Biggest Loser, about their journeys after transformation.

Jane met Rosemary Conley, a health fitness guru, in Leicester through the programme.

Producers filmed Jane taking part in Rosemary’s fitness class, chatting to other members and Rosemary herself.

“It was a bit daunting at first but it wasn’t too intense and everyone lovely.

“They got me on the scales and I was 15 stone and I burst into tears and Rosemary said Jane don’t worry, you are a beautiful lady and you have not put all your weight back on.”

Jane was also filmed taking part in her favourite hobby – riding her BMW motorbike.

“I was thinking what am I going to look like, but it was okay and I was nice and steady.”

Since filming Jane said she has taken away more confidence.

“Some people just may go into a trance if they shove a camera in your face.

“I just went for it and I enjoyed meeting new people.”

Jane is hoping to try Nordic Walking, a walk using specially designed walking poles in a way that harnesses the power of the upper body, to get back to her goal weight.
