A licensing application has gone in for a new hotel and pub on the Frontierland site in Morecambe.

Whitbread Group PLC has applied for a premises license for a Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre as part of a planned £17m shopping park at the former fairground.

The new 60-bedroomed hotel and pub-restaurant will replace the Ranch House bar.

“It is intended that the proposed premises will operate as a food-led public house at ground floor level with limited occasional regulated entertainment and with unlicensed hotel accommodation adjacent on the ground, first and second floors,” says the application form.

The licence will be automatically approved by Lancaster City Council unless objections are received within a 28-day consultation period, which expires on August 14. It would then go before the city council licensing committee for a decision.

Developers Opus North plan to start work on the new ‘Bay Shopping Park’ later this year.

The Visitor revealed recently that B&M Bargains and TK Maxx had been in talks over a place in the new complex, although Opus North has not yet confirmed the names of any shops who will occupy the park.
