AN inspirational role model to both blind and sighted people is to be made an Honorary Freeman of Lancaster.

Tony Kimpton, who recently retired from Galloways Society for the Blind and the Lancashire Youth Service after 40 years, was nominated by Lancaster City Council in recognition of his work with both organisations and also his inspiration and encouragement of many other young people despite the loss of his sight.

A delighted Tony said: “I got the letter of invitation in September and it came as quite a surprise but I will be delighted to accept the award. It is quite an honour to receive that locally.”
