A high speed chase to pursue burglars who had broken into a Co-op in Caton resulted in three arrests.
Police said at 1.20am on Tuesday, February 25, an alarm was activated at the shop on Hornby Road.
A red Seat Leon was seen driving away and was tracked and spotted exiting the M6 at junction 31 where it joined the A59 towards Blackburn.
The vehicle was driven at excessive speed towards Mellor village where it was abandoned.
With the assistance of the police helicopter and dogs three men were arrested.
A large amount of cigarettes were seized from the vehicle and a crowbar was recovered nearby. A fourth man is being sought.
A 38 year old man, a 21 year old man and a 22 year old man all from Manchester are in custody in connection with the burglary.
The 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and taking a vehicle.
