THE new interim chief executive at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust has been announced.

Eric Morton starts work at the trust this week after previously holding chief executive positions with other health trusts including Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

The Morecambe Bay trust owns and operates the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and hospitals in Kendal and Barrow-in-Furness.

“It is a great achievement to attract someone of Eric’s calibre to assist the team in their important work of turning the trust around to ensure it provides consistently safe, high quality patient care to the public it serves,” said Sir David Henshaw, chair of the trust.

“I would like to thank Tim Bennett for his time as acting chief executive and his continued support.”

Eric Morton said: “I am extremely pleased to accept this position and look forward to working with the board, governors and staff in providing high quality services for our patients.”
