Firefighters were called to help move an obese woman from the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

A crew from Lancaster Fire Station attended at around 5am on Sunday.

Watch manager Leo Loughrey said his team were at the hospital for around half an hour in order to help medical staff with a ‘bariatric patient’ in her thirties.

He said: “We were called to the hospital to assist nursing staff with the removal of a patient within the ward.

“They weren’t able to move her as they were having difficulty with the hoist.” He said firefighters were attending such incidents more often.
