Four care workers have appeared in court following a police investigation into the mistreatment of residents at a care home in Slyne.

All four have been charged with being a carer involved in the ill treatment and wilful neglect of a person with lack of capacity. This is contrary to the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Darren Smith, 34, of Howgill Avenue, Lancaster, is charged with eight offences; Katie Cairns, 26, of Riverview Court, Westgate, Morecambe, is charged with four offences; Carol Moore, 53, of Ripon Avenue, Beaumont, Lancaster, is charged with six offences; and Gemma Pearson, 27, of Hill Street, Carnforth, is charged with one offence.

The 19 charges are in relation to eight victims at Throstle Grove care home and relate to a period between May 2010 and September 2011.

All four pleaded not guilty to the charges when they appeared before Lancaster magistrates last Thursday.

They were committed to crown court for a hearing on February 18.
