A good curry pill can ease the pain

LAST week I started writing about natural herbal anti-inflammatories. I was going to cover more than one product, but got carried away telling you all about celadrin.

So this week I am going to continue the theme and cover other options for natural pain relief.

When people are in pain, not surprisingly, they tend to want to try something which could help them quite quickly.

Nothing in natural medicine works overnight as a rule I’m afraid, but there are a couple of natural products which we use to try to help people struggling with pain and inflammation which can work quite quickly.

The first is an old favourite which my dad used to write about in this column years ago. He called them his curry pills. The reason they are called curry pills is that they are made out of herbs including ginger and turmeric.

The full combination used in the curry pills is ginger, turmeric and bromelain. Ginger and turmeric have been used for centuries and have an excellent reputation for helping to relieve pain and inflammation.

They are both said to have natural anti-inflammatory actions. Ginger may also help to boost circulation, which helps to clear inflammatory substances out of the affected area.

Bromelain is an enzyme found in pineapples, which is said to also help break down inflammatory substances.
