THE Winter Gardens has taken another step towards fully reopening thanks to the arrival of a new bar and toilets.
Owners the Winter Gardens Preservation Trust and volunteers from the Friends of the Winter Gardens raised £30,000 from public donations and fund-raising events to pay for the brand new facilities.
The bar and toilets were fitted by local tradespeople and were in use for the first time at last weekend’s Morecambe Variety Festival.
This was the first time a bar had been operational at the venue since 1977, when the seafront theatre closed.
Evelyn Archer, chair of the Trust, said she was “delighted” with the results and thanked everyone who had helped.
The Trust hopes the new facilities will enable the theatre to open for live entertainment more frequently.
