A WOMAN whose mother died from a rare degenerative disease of the brain is organising a series of fundraisers to raise awareness of the condition.
Carol Smart from Heysham, lost her mother Joyce Davies to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) in February and is determined to raise money to help other families in the same position, as well as pay for training for special nurses able to deal with the condition, which can leave sufferers totally dependent on family or carers.
Carol said: “The first fundraiser we’re holding is at the Globe Arena on May 13, at 8pm.
“There will be live music from Black Heart Afterglow, Swarm and Top Dog and tickets are £3 (£4 on the door).
“We are also hoping to hold a five-a-side football tournament, an under fives bike ride from Happy Mount Park, an X Factor/Battle of the Bands night, a black tie dinner and much more.”
