A DEDICATED and respected firefighter has retired after nearly 30 years service.

Phil Woodhouse, 56, crew manager of Morecambe’s Retained Fire Service said his farewells on Monday after 27 years in the job.

Being a member of the retained service, Phil has another full-time job, as a plant operator at Heysham Power Station and provides 60 to 80 hours a week cover at Morecambe Fire Station on Westgate.

Colleagues estimate that Phil, who was the longest serving firefighter at the station before his retirement, has spent more than 150,000 hours on call and been out to around 7,000 incidents.
