LAST month, the Mayor of Lancaster said he was shocked the city council had received just one request for permission to hold a street party to mark this Friday’s royal wedding.
This sparked fears the wedding would come and go amid a backdrop of general apathy across the Lancaster and Morecambe district.
But it seems that, as the big day has drawn closer, many are starting to get into the spirit of things. The number of parties and themed events in Morecambe and Lancaster has steadily grown.
Mum-of-two Lisa Regan is getting ready to hang out the bunting for her street party on Ashbourne Grove, Westgate. She said: “My neighbour Kelly Corless and I were talking over a bottle of wine and it started as just an idea, but it’s snowballed.
“I can’t wait, I’m looking forward to it. It’s a show of community spirit and it really makes everybody feel good.”
