Thornton Athletic  Many well-known Morecambe men played for Thornton Athletic who were a team of amateurs that played in the Lancashire Amateur League, as well as in the North Lancashire & District League in season 1932-33.  Their first ground was at Halfway House, adjacent to Christie Park and where Lancaster Road School is now. They then moved to the Old Golf Links which is now Morecambe High School playing fields.  Alderman R C Penhale was a member of the team.
