A MAN died after a crash between a van and a pick-up truck on the M6 motorway near Carnforth.

The dead man has now been named as Graham Whitwam, 53, from Paddock in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Graham’s family have paid tribute to him.

A family member said: “Graham was suddenly taken from us in such tragic circumstances on Saturday, September 15, in the early morning.

“Graham was a well-loved husband to Helen, son to Annie, loved brother to Lynda, Richard and Sandra, father to Tiffany and loved step-father to Nicky, Natalie and Georgina.

“Graham was known and loved by many, and known as “G-Dubs” and “Dell Boy” through his talents of doing many jobs.

“His main passion was cars especially making carriages out of old bangers. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.”

Mr Whitwam was travelling north in the truck at about 6am on Saturday when the crash took place.

Police believe the truck rolled after being hit by the Transit van near junction 35.

A woman, who was also travelling in the pick-up, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

She has since been released from hospital.

A 46-year-old man from Warwickshire was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was also held on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

He was subsequently bailed until November.

A police spokesman said the carriageway between junction 34 and 36 northbound was closed for a number of hours due to the collision.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
