A MUM and dad are celebrating the safe arrival of baby number 16.
Noel and Sue Radford from Morecambe now have seven daughters and nine sons following the birth of baby Casper on October 3.
Casper will be doted on by his 15 brothers and sisters; Chris, Sophie, Chloe, Jack, Daniel, Luke, Millie, Katie, James, Ellie, Aimee, Josh, Tilly, Max and Oscar.
The Radfords are definitely the town’s biggest family and might be the largest in the whole of Britain.
Noel gets up at 4.30am six days a week to work in the family bakery in Strawberry Gardens, Heysham.
The dynamic dad also drops the kids off at school in the family car, a 15-seater minibus.
Mum Sue also works in the bakery when she’s not looking after the children at the family abode, a four-storey, 10-bedroomed former care home.
Sue had her first-born, Chris, with her childhood sweetheart Noel when she was just 14, then they married at 17.
She said: “People don’t understand. They always say: ‘What’s it like?’ Routine is key.”
“We’re very chilled out,” adds Noel. “If we were stressy people we would have been dead and buried by now!”
And it helps that Sue has a photographic memory for hospital appointments and birthdays.
Noel said: “We don’t need a calendar, it’s all in Sue’s head!”
Noel and Sue intend to have even more children in future.
They simply love being parents and all the hustle and bustle that goes with it.
“We’ve no figure in mind as a limit, I don’t think...” says Noel.
So 16 kids and counting could very soon become 20, maybe even 25?
Even Sue gulps at this suggestion. “No,” she laughs. “I think we might have stopped by then!”
According to the Guinness Book of Records, the greatest recorded number of children ever born to one woman is 69 to a Russian mother in the 1700’s.
