A MUM and daughter were left devastated after their beloved pet cat was run over and left “in pieces”.

However, Sue Cunningham says her and her daughter Molly were left even more distressed by the way the city council dealt with the loss of Pookie.

Pookie, who was 10, went missing at the end of May and was found dead a few hours later by council workmen.

Sue said: “I rang environmental services because my cat had never gone astray before.

“The guy at the other end said yes, they had found a dead cat on Dalton Road that morning.

“I said: ‘Could you identify it?’ The man said ‘We found it in pieces and we don’t keep them, we just take them away’.

“I was quite shocked and really upset. Later I rang and they said they had taken Pookie away.

“What had they done with him? I was so upset and couldn’t deal with it.”
