A fun run where hundreds will dress as Eric Morecambe will spark a week-long celebration of the town’s favourite son.

The 3k run along the prom this Saturday, starting and finishing at the statue, will coincide with English Tourism Week celebrations centred around the famous comedian.

From March 14 to 21, staff at the Morecambe Visitor Information Centre will be marking the week by celebrating all things Eric, with lots of Eric Morecambe themed gifts and books.

Organised by Lancaster City Council and Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club, the run begins at 11am. Entry forms from www.lancaster.gov.uk/ericfunrun.

Participants are encouraged to wear Eric-themed fancy dress.

Meanwhile, tickets are still on sale for a series of events to raise money for the ‘Morecambe Gets Wise’ appeal for a new ‘Sunshine Garden of Fame’ on Morecambe seafront featuring a life-size piece of Morecambe and Wise wall art.

An Eric Morecambe darts night at the Trimpell Club on Friday, March 27 features former world number one Colin ‘Jaws’ Lloyd and BBC1 darts pundit Bobby George, as seen recently on ‘Let’s Play Darts for Comic Relief’. Tickets are available from the club on 412984.

And a fundraising dinner will be held at the Globe Arena on Thursday, April 16 starring former Manchester United footballer Denis Law and stage performers Jonty Stephens and Ian Ashpitel, who play ‘Eric and Little Ern’ on the West End stage. Call 411797 for tickets.
