MORECAMBE has gone to rack and ruin, according to one woman involved in trying to clean it up.

Chrissy Norgate spearheaded a clean-up of parts of the resort’s town centre last Thursday and believes people need to take responsibility for the state of the town.

She said: “To me Morecambe is a grown up seaside resort. There’s no kiss me quick hats or stag and hen parties.

“But the grown-ups need to start acting like grown-ups.

“I’ve lived here for four years and just watched it get worse and worse.

“So I decided to get together with a few others and apply for Street Pride. I organised the volunteers and now they have asked me to be community link officer.”

Street Pride is a Lancaster City Council scheme with the Edward, Union, Chapel and New Street area of town one of the biggest six clean-ups of 20 across the district this year.
