The winners of this year’s coveted Green Flag awards have been revealed - and five parks and cemeteries in the Morecambe and Lancaster area have come out on top.
Happy Mount Park, Morecambe cemetery and Morecambe parish church, Torrisholme Cemetery, Williamson Park and Lancaster University have all won the coveted award - the mark of a quality green space in the UK.
In the North-West, a total of 234 sites have picked up an award.
The record number of UK sites receiving an award this year means that, despite the challenging economic times, even more people now have access to well-managed, high-quality green spaces on their doorsteps.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award manager Paul Todd said: ‘It’s another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Awards and this is something well worth celebrating.
“It is fantastic that the North-West boasts 234 winning sites – meaning more people than ever before in the region can play, relax and enjoy quality green space on their doorstep.
“The parks sector is facing some tough challenges, so it is heartening to see that they are committed to maintaining and improving standards in our nation’s green space .”
