40 years for area of outstanding beauty

Friends old and new gathered in the magnificent setting of Leighton Hall to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the designation of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

They also attended for the launch of the review of the AONB Management Plan.

Lucy Barron, AONB Manager, talked about the many achievements and highlights since designation; Tony Riden, AONB Countryside Officer, revealed how the fantastic volunteer effort had made a difference over the years; and Suzie Reynolds revealed the history of Leighton Hall.

This was followed by the presentation of the 2012 Bittern Award to Ann Kitchen for her outstanding contribution to the AONB.
