Top class comedy comes to town
Carl Hutchinson.
Top class comedians are lined up to perform at the Platform’s new stand-up comedy club which opens its doors this month.
The Morecambe Comedy Club is a brand new regular night hosted by the Platform in partnership with Hit & Run Comedy and will take place on the last Thursday of every month starting on August 30, at 8pm.
Shows are for over 18s only and will feature three top class professional comedians.
The events will be hosted by a comedian being hailed as Liverpool’s next big talent, Ste Porter, who will take to the stage as MC for the evening.
Ste said: “A town the size of Morecambe needs to have a regular comedy night.
“The acts we’re bringing to the Platform are the same acts that regularly play all of the country’s top venues such as the London Comedy store and Liverpool’s Laughterhouse so we’re not holding back when it comes to the names we want to bring in.
“There will be some familiar names to comedy fans over the coming months.”
For the first show Ste will be joined by award-winning comedian Carl Hutchinson and international stand-up star Daliso Chaponda.
In September, Phoenix Nights fans are in for a treat when Archie Kelly takes to the stage for his live stand-up show.
Mike Newall is also on the bill plus support comedians.
October’s show features Greg Cook whose deadpan style and mastery of the spoken word led Jon Plowman, Head of BBC Comedy to describe him as: ‘Les Dawson for the 21st Century’.
More laughs are guaranteed from Keith Carter as ‘Nige’ who has travelled the world supporting top comedians such as Ricky Gervais and Johnny Vegas.
Coun Ron Sands, cabinet member for tourism and culture said: “We are delighted to be able to host the new
Morecambe Comedy Club at the Platform. I am sure this will be a great success and prove to be a fantastic addition to what is already on offer at the Platform for those who seek the feel good factor of top class entertainment at a top class venue.”
Tickets for the shows cost £8 and are available through the Box Office on 01524 582803.
The Morecambe Comedy Club is one of the exciting new editions to the Platform’s autumn winter programme.
The new brochure featuring the full line up is available now.
