A friend of mine recently proved that romance is certainly not dead.
He surprised his girlfriend on her birthday with a trip to Manchester to see her favourite band The Killers.
She was over the moon at this and he certainly earned a decent haul of brownie points.
Unfortunately four songs into the gig at the Manchester Arena, Brandon Flowers and the band left the stage as Brandon lost his voice and was unable to perform. Such a shame.
And it’s no-one’s fault when these things happen. He can’t be expected to sing with no voice.
Plus if he did try and force a performance there is every chance he could cause permanent damage to his vocal chords and it’s not worth ruining his entire career for the sake of one show.
However, as a result the audience weren’t happy.
The arena was filled with the sound of boos when Brandon Flowers announced the end of show after only a few minutes on stage.
It’s a strange situation as I fully understand the frustration from both sides. Quite a disappointment when you are all hyped up for a gig.
It’s not cheap going to concerts. Not only do you have to pay for the ticket there is also a sky high ‘booking fee’ charged by these online booking sites.
We also have to book a day off work, pay for petrol or train fares down there and then extortionate parking charges and a hotel for the night.
Not to mention inflated drinks prices at the venue to get a warm beer in a plastic cup. If you fancy pushing the boat out there is always the eight quid hot dog that tastes a bit like plastic.
All of that combined does work out a fairly pricey night out.
If the gig is cancelled in the same way as The Killers you are offered either a refund on the ticket price or a ticket for a rescheduled date. Neither is adequate.
Getting the ticket price back is probably only a fraction of what the entire trip cost. And if you get a rescheduled date then you have to pay the hotel and travel all over again.
It must be devastating for a band to have to pull out of a concert mid way through although even more devastating for the fan’s bank accounts!
Ticket companies should also offer compensation as well as a full refund.
