A celebrity Masterchef finalist will headline a day of arts events in Morecambe and Lancaster on March 1.

Comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli’s unusual show Indian Takeaway is part of the latest ‘First Friday’ day of arts.

The fun will begin at Lancaster University’s Peter Scott Gallery (situated in the Great Hall complex) with Jumpers, a free video installation created by British artists Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollar exploring the religious practice of ‘jumping’. This will be shown from 11am to 8pm.

The Dukes Theatre in Lancaster will run two events: musician Lee Affen will perform for free from 6pm to 7pm in the theatre’s bar, then at 8pm Hardeep Singh Kohli presents his new show, Indian Takeaway.

During the show, Singh Kohli will order a takeaway live on stage and work to prepare his own meal before it arrives. For tickets priced £16/£14 concessions, ring 01524 598500.

Other events taking place on the day include a dance performance by the Candoco Dance Company. Celebrating their 20th anniversary, Candoco will present three performances: group dance numbers Set and Reset/Reset and Looking Back, as well as solo performance This Is It, starting at 8pm in the Nuffield Theatre at the uni. Advance tickets cost £11.50, £8.50 concessions.

In Morecambe’s Hothouse, community music charity More Music hosts Songwriter’s Circle, a storytelling event where songwriters discuss their work.

The event is hosted by Gary Bridgens with Lancaster musician Nancy Kent, Lancaster band Carpe and Welsh folk duo Turnstone. For tickets priced £6/£4 concessions, ring 01524 831997.

First Fridays were launched last autumn to promote Lancaster Arts City, a group of organisations working to promote Lancaster as an exciting cultural destination.
