Running just one pub in Morecambe during these tough economic times is quite a gamble, but taking on two is a real challenge.

Debbie Carter, though, is definitely up for the task.

Recently Debbie took on the licence at the Queens on Morecambe promenade.

She and husband Lee already run the Pier Hotel, also on the seafront.

Debbie and Lee have done a great job at the Pier so she felt the time was right to take on a second venue, as both are owned by Heineken Star Pubs and Bars.

The Queens reopened this month after a slick £20,000 internal refurb.

This will be followed by a £30,000 facelift on the outside later this year.

“I decided to take on the Queens because I was scared someone else would, and make a mess of it!” said Debbie.

“It’s going to look fab when it’s finished and everyone is welcome, providing they aren’t a troublemaker.”

The Queens will focus on good food, drink and live entertainment, including a ticket-only Lady Ga Ga tribute ‘Lisa Ga Ga’ scheduled for April 28.

Acts will perform on the pub’s brand new stage on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, including regular drag queen Miss Bonna Petite every Sunday.

This coming weekend’s music comes from Tony Richardson on Friday and Robert Taylor on Saturday.

The Morecambe Comedy Club has also moved from the Platform to the Queens, every last Thursday in the month.

The first show on February 28 includes Sunderland motormouth Mark Rough plus UK comedy circuit legend Silky, and MC Ste Porter.

Tickets cost £5 and the show starts at 8pm. Tickets available by calling 01524 582803.
