Staff at an out-of-school club received a finalist certificate in the Lancashire 2013 Pride Awards.

The staff at MORO’s (Morecambe Road) out of school club at Morecambe Road School were nominated by Fiona Gill, the school business manager for providing an excellent out of school club for children and young people with additional needs.

MOROs is unique as it is managed by Morecambe Road School and manned by trained, highly experienced school staff who provide a safe and outstanding out of school club facility.

The clubs provide cover for after school, Saturday mornings and school holidays.

MORO’s is also individual in that activities are included such as partnerships with community groups like More Music In Morecambe and Dance Creation.

Additonally the club use the school facilities of the ICT suite, Food Tech Room and playground to ensure that the children and young people attending MORO’s experience enriching and selfdeveloping activities and life skills.

The holiday and weekend club facilitate trips to local venues such as Blackpool Pleasure Beach, The Lakes, Hothersall Lodge, bowling and the cinema to name but a few.

This could not be organised and delivered without the commitment of MORO’s staff and therefore the nomination was to thank them for the extra mile they provide.

It was only possible to nominate six of the MORO’s team members due to a maximum limit of six.

However all MORO’s staff and volunteers are recognised through this award and thanks goes to everyone involved with MORO’s.

MORO’s is open to all children and young people who have additional needs and the club is subsidised by funding from Lancashire County Council.

Fiona Gill said: “MORO’s is run by Morecambe Road School and is a successful out of school club which has provided unique experiences since 2008 for children and young people with additional needs.

“MORO’s provides care for all not just it’s own pupils and the holiday club is particularly popular with families whose children do not attend Morecambe Road School.”
