A Lancaster-based Russian tutor has organised a course to give people an insight into her country ahead of the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Masha Golubeva, who was born in Moscow, said her classes would be suitable for people with little or no knowledge of the language.

They will also look at the nation’s rich culture.

The ten-week course starts on January 13 and will run at the Friends Meeting House in Lancaster between 7pm and 8.30pm.

Masha, who lives and teaches in the city, said: “With the Winter Olympics starting on February 6, the world’s attention will turn to Russia and the international teams competing in Sochi.

“My Russian language course aims to give an insight into a language and culture of Russia and Russian people.

“This course is specifically designed to suit people with no previous or with the limited knowledge of the Russian language and to deliver person-centred tuition in a fun and easy way which online courses and CDs are unable to match.”
