A driver who fled the scene of an accident which torched two vehicles has still not been traced.

Police said a passenger in a Citroen DS3 which hit a parked Ford Cougar on Morecambe promenade near Beach Street in Bare was injured in the crash.

The North West Ambulance Service said the man, in his 30s, suffering from chest and back pain, was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary for treatment.

Fire crews from Morecambe battled the blaze which engulfed both vehicles causing extensive damage following the accident. A pool of fuel running down the promenade could have led to more vehicles being involved in the inferno, but luckily firefighters contained the blaze.

The accident happened at 9.18am on Sunday, June 30.

A spokesperson for Lancashire police said: “The driver may well have suffered injuries. Police didn’t trace the driver, who remains outstanding.”

Call police on 101 if you can help.
