Swimming outdoors in the middle of winter isn’t many people’s idea of fun...especially if your dog tears up your clothes afterwards.
But that’s exactly what happened to a Morecambe fundraiser after her pet labrador got a little carried away after a charity swim.
Dawn Gillon took part in the Chill Swim in freezing cold Lake Windermere on Boxing Day to raise money for Galloway’s Society for the Blind.
The water temperature was five degrees, the temperature outside was three degrees, and all Dawn had was a swimming costume and hat to keep her ‘warm’.
“Some of those taking part didn’t get in at all, it was so cold,” said Dawn, community fundraiser for the Morecambe charity.
“I could feel my body start to tingle as the cold chilled me through but I wasn’t bothered.” An impressive feat for sure but not to Dawn’s black labrador Tilly, who accompanied her on the trip.
“As I started to pat myself dry with my towel, she thought it would be great fun to run off with my clothes!” she said.
“She tore them all to shreds as she left me shivering on the water’s edge.
“I did manage to retrieve my trousers and had a coat in the back of the car.
“Just imagine how embarrassing the trip home might have been otherwise!” Dawn was one of nearly 70 people who joined in the shivering dip. She raised £200.
