Lancaster has been chosen by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) to feature in its series of Discovering Britain walks.
The three mile self-guided walk - entitled ‘From water to wealth’ - recognises the good will and community spirit of Lancaster’s residents by telling a story of industrial trading and philanthropic giving.
Walkers will discover how Lancastrians used the city’s waterways to make a living, before investing much of their profits back into the community.
Historically, many rich traders embraced philanthropy and sought to improve the lives of local people.
The walk is suitable for families and has alternative directions for those requiring step-free access.
Free booklets and audio guides are available at www.discoveringbritain.org.
