Have your say

I am writing today’s column from the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester where I will be until Wednesday. Earlier this morning (Monday) I addressed a fringe event on nuclear power.

I am the chairman of the Conservative Friends of Nuclear Energy and never miss an opportunity to talk about nuclear power and about Heysham 1 and 2 and the fact that the government has ear marked the land adjacent to Heysham power station for the new Heysham 3.

I was also able to tell delegates, which included some big names in the nuclear industry about the large number of people who are employed at Heysham and about the new Heysham power station visitors centre that I officially opened a few weeks ago.

Over the weekend I was lucky enough to be invited to participate in two charitable events, on Friday I ran the last five miles of Private Scott Farmers 123 mile coast to coast hero run and on Sunday I took part in Mateo Sanderson’s fun walk. Mateo is a local youngster and avid Morecambe fan who organised his own charitable event. Both Mateo and Scott are inspirational people and I hope they’ve both raised lots of money for their respective charities thanks also to everyone who came along to participate on Sunday.

Over the last few days I have received a large number of e-mails and telephone calls from people who have been to see Dame Thora Hird’s memorial plaque, one person in particular knew Thora personally and I am pleased the plaque is being well received so thank you for the correspondence.

I have a number of advice surgeries planned for the coming weeks, the dates are:

Friday, October 11, at Asda near Salt Ayre leisure centre, Friday, November 15, and Friday, December 6, at Tesco Carnforth. My supermarket surgeries are drop in surgeries so there is no need to make an appointment just come along on the day. Of course you can always contact my office if you need help and advice, my number is 01524 841225.

I produce a regular e newsletter that is delivered directly to your inbox. If you would like to join my mailing list please take a look at my website www.davidmorrismp.co.uk.
