This week I received a letter from Brandon Lewis MP which said that Lancaster City Council sent back £4 million of Government investment on the Chatsworth Gardens project.

This is a disgrace when the people in the West End have had to live with the houses around them in such a neglected state for so long.

On Friday, March 20 between 8.27am and 10.41am there will be a total solar eclipse with around 90 per cent cover visible from the Morecambe and Lancaster area.

To celebrate this rare event Jonathan and Sarah Higginson are giving schools the chance to have eclipse shades so that children can view the event.

I have been working with Jonathan and Sarah for a number of years, since the sad passing of their son George, to raise money for an observatory in Williamson’s Park.

George was a real enthusiast for science and space and Jonathan and Sarah want to help as many children as possible discover the wonders of space.

If your school or group would like some glasses for March 20 please email j.higginsonfixit@btinternet.com.

I recently attended a briefing on the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) by Atos healthcare who have the contract for the north west.

I am aware that some of my constituents had been experiencing delays getting appointments for their PIP assessments, whilst I am aware that in recent months the number who have been waiting had significantly decreased, I am able to expedite these applications.

If you have applied for PIP and have been waiting over 16 weeks for an appointment please contact me with your National Insurance number and I will secure you an appointment.

This week the latest unemployment figures were released for January 2015 which showed that 1,282 people were unemployed in Morecambe and Lunesdale.

This is 555 lower than in January 2014, and is brilliant that unemployment is continuing to fall and that more and more people in the constituency are finding gainful employment.
