UK ORGANISERS of a global charity run held in Morecambe are celebrating after raising thousands of pounds for worthy causes.

Run 4 The World proved to be a massive success, raising £2,400 on the day, and a further £1,500 is expected to come from collection boxes and corporate sponsorship funds.

The fifth annual running, which took place on May 7, smashed its record for participants, as 258 runners took part in either a five or 10 kilometre dash along Morecambe Promenade, to help raise funds for two good causes.

This year, the UK run was supporting Ambassadors in Sport, which uses football to help children re-engage with education around the world. In addition, the run raised money for Christians Against Poverty, a national debt-counselling charity, with a network of 150 centres based in local churches.
