A LARGER than life figure described by a friend as “probably the best darts player Morecambe ever produced” has died.

Reg Cupit, many times the Morecambe Darts League Champion, passed away on Friday after a long illness.

Bruce Boniface, former league secretary, paid tribute to a very popular man who was known to friends, team-mates and opponents as “The Big Fella”.

Reg, 59, who used to work at Heysham Power Stations and lived on Windsor Grove, was captain of the Lancashire county men’s darts team for many years.

He also led the Morecambe Super League team to six Premier Division titles.
