Dame Thora could have plaque tribute

OUR town’s favourite daughter could soon have a memorial plaque in her name.

David Morris MP has launched an appeal to buy a plaque in tribute to BAFTA-winning TV and film star Dame Thora Hird.

The plaque could be installed in or near the Arndale Centre, close to the site of the former Royalty Theatre.

The theatre was managed by the late actress and comedienne’s father and was where Dame Thora first trod the boards.

Mr Morris has pledged to put the first £100 towards the cost of the plaque and hopes local businesses would also put their hands in their pockets to help honour the Last of the Summer Wine star.

Mr Morris, a Conservative, is working with Darren Clifford, Labour vice-chair of Morecambe Town Council, on the project.
