A VALUABLE piece of promenade artwork has been mutilated by thieves in search of metal.

The “picture frame” sculpture, in Morecambe’s West End Gardens, has been stripped of its copper lattice work.

Distressed members of the public reported the damage to the popular artwork to police on Friday.

The piece is owned by Lancaster City Council, and the garden in which the sculpture sits won a design award.
