AN Aladdin’s cave of stolen statues and other garden ornaments has been discovered at a travellers’ site.

The large haul of items was found during a raid at the Mellishaw Caravan Park in Morecambe.

Police carried out the raid as part of an investigation into the theft of a statue of a golden boy which has now been returned to its owner in Lancaster.

Victims are now being asked to examine the collection of statues, ornaments, plant pots, plinths, benches and other garden items to see if they can identify their stolen property.

Photographs of items confiscated during the raid have been posted by officers on Lancashire Constabulary’s Facebook page.

PC Ben Hanley, of Lancaster police, said: “If someone recognises an item that they believe to be theirs, then they should get in touch with us and we will seek proof that it is theirs before it is returned.
