A GETAWAY driver involved in a robbery in Morecambe town centre has been jailed for 33 months.
Darren O’Connor was said to have enlisted himself after a friend snatched £12,000 from a woman who had called at a bank.
Preston Crown Court heard how members of the public gave chase, managed to retrieve some of the stolen money and noted part of the registration number.
O’Connor, 45, of Mayfield Avenue, Lancaster had pleaded guilty to robbery.
Another man who physically carried out the robbery, called Martin Kavanagh, had received a five year term at an earlier hearing, the court was told.
The robbery took place in June last year in the Pedder Street area of Morecambe.
A woman was targeted after visiting a bank just after lunchtime. Mr Tim Brennand, prosecuting, said the woman was struck from behind by Kavanagh.
Mr Brennand said: “She sustained neck and shoulder injuries.”
