A man has been sentenced to five years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in Morecambe.

Carn Burke, 24, of Mount Avenue, Lancaster, was sentenced at Preston Crown Court on Thursday, August 29.

The offence took place in the early hours of Sunday, March 31 of this year when Carn Burke, while in a drunken state, approached a 22 year old female on Pedder Street and sexually assaulted her.

PC Gillian Topping of Lancaster CID said “Given the level of mental distress sexual offences can cause victims, it is important the public know we take offences like this very seriously, and will always look to prosecute sexual offenders.

“Offences of this nature are never acceptable, and drunkenness is neither an excuse nor a defence for such reprehensible actions.”
