FRIENDS of a “lively and vivacious” mum have no idea why her husband strangled her to death and then hanged himself in their home.
Prison officer Robert Holden killed his wife Nicola at their Torrisholme bungalow, then took his own life while their 16-year-old son Elliot was at school.
Police said the couple were experiencing “marital difficulties” but were unable to say exactly what drove Mr Holden to murder his wife.
And people who knew the Holdens were also completely at a loss, describing them as “a lovely couple”.
A relative raised the alarm on Friday morning after discovering Mr Holden’s body in the hallway of his semi-detached bungalow.
Police and paramedics then found the body of Mrs Holden in a back bedroom of the house at 37 Low Lane, opposite Torrisholme Community Primary School, at around 11.50am.
