THE scrapdealer who was himself a victim of metal thieves has vowed to do everything possible to quell the growing epidemic of lead thefts from properties.
James Varley, managing director of Morecambe Metals, had £3,500 worth of lead flashing stolen from a house he owns in Kendal.
But then Mr Varley shopped a man to police after he was caught red-handed selling the stolen lead to the scrap merchant’s own business for just £482.
“These thieves have no respect for anybody’s property,” said James Varley, managing director of Morecambe Metals.
“It’s just a few quid to them.”
