A hearse quietly drew up outside Morecambe Parish Church bearing a single coffin for a mum and son.

Together in death as they were in life, the bodies of Lisa Clay and her six-year-old son Joseph arrived for the funeral in a wicker casket surrounded by three flower arrangements.

Known by their family as ‘our little rays of sunshine’, Lisa and Joseph’s service was to celebrate their lives.

A poignant football flower arrangement for Joseph, who loved football, said: “Our beautiful ray of sunshine, brightest of stars, we love you so much, our special little (big man).

“Your smile, your laugh our gorgeous memories together live on forever. We love you always, millions and zillions - Aunty Jane, Uncle Lee and James and Ted.”

A beautiful wreath with white flowers for Lisa simply said: “Rest in peace, you will always be remembered - love from the Clay family.”

A sombre procession of mourners, some wearing brightly coloured clothing as requested, quietly followed the casket into the church for the service.

The procession entered the church to the music ‘Footprints in the Sand’ by Leona Lewis.

The opening hymn was ‘All things bright and beautiful’ followed by a scripture reading. A tribute to Lisa and Joseph was then read by family members.

The family said: “We have had the best, most amazing six years with you Joe - our Joe.

“Lisa, you are our beautiful sister, we’ve had 11 fantastic years knowing you and having you as a big part of our family.

“We really have had the best times with you and your Mummy Lisa. Night night our two special angels, we love you forever and ever.”

The funeral service at Morecambe Parish Church was followed by interment at Torrisholme Cemetery.

Lisa and her son Joseph were found dead at their home in Bolton-le-Sands on April 9.

Lisa’s partner Paul Chadwick has been charged with their murders and is due at Preston Crown Court in July.

Members of Lisa and Joseph’s family read a eulogy in church. An extract of the eulogy is as follows:

“Joseph- Our very special little ‘Big’ man. Joseph Michael Chadwick- our gorgeous, fun loving, cheeky, always smiling, beautiful, beautiful Grandson, Nephew, Cousin and Friend.

Your love for life was inspirational, your cheeky smile, your little sayings will always live with us forever.

Man City crazy, super-hero mad (Batman, Super-Man, Spider-Man- every costume/toy you could think of).

Remember all the fun we had at family BBQ’s, parties, my wedding. We’ll always take time to think and smile at our precious moments together as a family. Lisa, you are our beautiful sister, we’ll miss the special times with you as a special, special friend and all the moments we shared. Now I look at the memories we shared and how amazing it was, beautiful times with two of the most precious two people in our lives, our two rays of sunshine, our two special stars.....Joseph and Lisa.

See you again when we are old and grey. We love you tons. Thank you for being you our precious Joe and Lisa x”
