Thieves used a garden hose to break into a house and steal a plastic Postman Pat figure filled with coins.

The 2ft tall model of the popular kids’ TV character was among more than £10,000 worth of items stolen in a house burglary on West End Road, Morecambe.

Police said the offenders drove up to the house and parked on the empty driveway at the side of the property before forcing their way in through the garage.

They then used a garden hose to force entry through some patio doors and gain access to the main house.

Detective Sergeant Kathryn Riley said: “The Postman Pat figure was very heavy and there is evidence of drag marks at the rear of the premises.

“Understandably the victims are very distressed as a lot of the property stolen was jewellery which has a lot of sentimental value, including wedding rings.” The burglary happened between 4.30pm and 8pm on Wednesday, January 9.

Items stolen include a large sum of cash, a laptop, DVDs and a large quantity of XBox games.
