A 22-year-old man from Morecambe has been arrested and released on police bail until December 2 in connection with an assault in the town centre.

A 22-year-old man from Hertfordshire was also arrested but has been released with no further action.

The victim, 35-year-old Mark Matthews from Morecambe, was stable and recovering in hospital after the attack near the HSBC cash machine on Pedder Street.

Mr Matthews sustained serious head injuries when he was punched in the face some time between 12.30am and 12.45am on October 26.
