A pensioner was punched in the face in an unprovoked attack.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident on the cycle track near Trimpell sports ground in Morecambe.

A man was walking down the path when he was approached by another man who punched him in the face four times causing him to fall to the ground.

The victim, a 71-year-old local man. received cuts and bruises to his face.

The attacker is described as being aged around 17 or 18, slim build, clean shaven and wearing a white top.

PC Phil Williamson from Morecambe police said: “This appears to be an unprovoked attack on an innocent member of the public and I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time to come forward and contact the police.

“If anyone has any information then I would urge them to call Morecambe police on 101 quoting log reference number 849 of September 8.”

The incident happened on Sunday , September 8, at 1.30pm.
