A man was assaulted on the cycle path.

Police said the incident took place at 10.15pm on Thursday, June 6, on the cycle path near to ASDA on Ovangle Road.

The victim was approached by a group of between four to six men who were verbally abusive towards him before one of them threw a punch at the victim, catching him on the side of his body.

The victim began to defend himself and the group left the scene.

Fortunately, the victim only received a very minor injury but it would appear that this was a completely unprovoked assault and officers are keen to try and trace the people responsible.

PC Williamson said: “I’d appeal to anybody that may have been in the area at the time and may have any information to contact Lancashire police on 101 quoting log number LC-20130607-1193.”
