A highly respected former county councillor who represented both major parties during his political career has died.
Albert Thornton passed away in the Royal Lancaster Infirmary last Wednesday.
Mr Thornton served on Lancashire County Council for the Labour party from 1997 to 2008 and then for the Conservatives from 2008 to 2013.
Darren Clifford, Labour county councillor, said Mr Thornton “served the people of Morecambe South with honour and integrity” and David Morris MP described him as “a good friend who will be sadly missed.”
Mr Thornton served with many local organisations during his career including the Police Community Forum, Coastal Issues Group, Lancaster CVS and the Lancaster District Older Person’s Partnership Board to name just a few.
